Healthy Eating on the Go Made Simple: Snacks

I absolutely love a snack. Although I eat 3 meals a day I’m always busy at work, I aim to get plenty of steps in and if I have time I try to squeeze a workout in too! All that activity means that between meals there is a real potential for me to get hangry. This week I’m sharing my favourite snacks to have on the go:

  • Whitworths – I worked with Whitworths a few months ago and posted on Instagram about their amazing little snack packs because I truly love them and always have a box in the cupboard. They’re perfect to slip into your handbag in case of a snack based emergency and they come in a huge variety of flavours.
  • Trail mix – I quite often have a jar of homemade trail mix on the go at home, I buy a few different types of nuts, some dried fruit and any other goodies, mix them up and then take a serving with me to work. My favourite combination is cashews, pecans, raisins, dried banana and dark chocolate chips!
  • Yogurt raisins – anyone who knows me will know that this obsession is real at the moment! I absolutely love Ripple’s yoghurt coated raisins and you won’t find me without a box in my handbag.
  • Flavoured rice cakes – I was always a bit of a rice cake sceptic because I thought they were like eating cardboard but recently I’ve been converted. They come in such a huge variety of flavours; caramel, chocolate, yoghurt, cheese, salt & vinegar and they’re convenient to pop in with your lunch.
  • Houmous and crudités – I have a special Tupperware just for transporting my favourite snack (yes my life is that exciting!) I could eat houmous on its own straight out of the pot so I live having carrot, cucumber or whatever other veggies I fancy with some houmous mid-afternoon.
  • Apple and peanut butter – a bonus of the Tupperware is that it works equally well with apple slices and peanut butter, perfect if you have a sweet tooth.
  • Dark chocolate – there’s nothing better than a couple of squares of chocolate as a pick-me-up! I personally love Lindt’s sea salt caramel or Lidl’s own brand dark chocolate with raspberry to dunk into a cup of tea
  • Fresh fruit – this is a recent idea for me. Up until a few weeks ago I would spend a fortune every lunch on buying small packets of fresh fruit, now I buy a whole pineapple, melon or some assorted berries at the weekend, prepare it myself and portion it out for the week. Not only am I saving money but it means that I’m using less disposable plastic (for more tips on how to live more sustainably check out my post).
  • Crisp breads – these are like rice cakes, you either love them or hate them! I can’t get enough of Aldi’s chia and oat crispbread topped with houmous or smashed avocado and chilli flakes.
  • Lentil crisps – another one of my Aldi/Lidl finds both sell really tasty lentil crisps in a few different flavours which are a great alternative to fried potato crisps.
  • Snack bars – I’m trying to depend on bars less and focussing on eating a wider variety of nutritious foods but snack bars definitely have a place for me when I’m in a real rush and need something quickly. My favourites are Kind bars and Nutri Grain.

So there it is, plenty of snack inspiration for busy people on the go! Next up in this mini-series is a variety of lunch ideas which you can either prep in advance or put together quickly before work.

I always struggle with healthy snacks but this has definitely given me a lot of ideas! I don’t think I’ve found a ricecake that I like (though if there are any savoury ones like chilli, I would buy! Haha!). Fruit is usually my go-to but I probably eat too much of that! xD
